Bengt Berg is a native of Torsby in northern Värmland and has been active as a writer since the mid-70s, mainly in poetry. He has received many literary awards, including the Samfundet De Nios Winter Prize (1999) and the Selma Lagerlöf Prize (2023).
“Bengt Berg is strongly rooted in his local, northern Värmland origins, but with his eyes constantly open to the outside world. In his poems, he attentively captures the surrounding details of everyday moments, in a way that suggests the presence of eternity in the moment. Based on personal experiences he aims at their universal sounding board, is emphasized in the justification, among other things.
It will be the 15th time that the Sorescu Prize has been awarded to writing that is judged to be among the essentials in Swedish-language literature.
