Benchmark update, DDoS attacks, Dawntrail – all information from the producer’s letter part 81

The new “Letter from the Producer” livestream for Final Fantasy XIV took place recently. The developers presented fresh information about the recent DDoS attacks, the promised benchmark update and the upcoming expansion Dawntrail.

What’s new about the benchmark? You probably noticed: The program that allows players to find out whether their PC is powerful enough for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail caused quite a bit of trouble.

The tool’s old technology struggled with the MMORPG’s comprehensive graphics update, which led to unwanted changes to existing characters and display errors. The criticism from the community had an effect. The developers announced a comprehensive update for the benchmark tool.

The new “Letter from the Producer” livestream (via Square Enix) provided concrete details about the improvements that have been implemented. For example, there will be adjustments to the fangs of the Miqo’te from the Moonwalker tribe. In addition, the Lalafell’s teeth, which were made worse by the graphics update, will be fixed.

Other problems such as the incorrect display of laugh lines should be resolved by improving the lighting. In addition, the so-called “normal mapping” has been revised for all playable races, which improves the surface details displayed. According to the developers, the revised benchmark could go live on May 31, 2024.

What about DDoS attacks? Final Fantasy XIV has been suffering from DDoS attacks for some time now, negatively affecting the server connections of players who are currently making Eorzea unsafe. According to the developers, this is the most extensive and prolonged wave of attacks since the launch of A Realm Reborn.

The official statement:

Our infrastructure team is working in shifts around the clock and working with vendors around the world to mitigate the impact of the attacks as much as possible. Despite our best efforts, however, there are times when the attacks overcome our protection measures and disrupt the connection of as many as 1,000 to 2,000 players at once.
