In addition to his vocation as an actor, Ben Affleck has also worked as a producer for a long time. Along with colleague and longtime friend Matt Damon, the star has a new film studio called Artists Equity founded.

At a recent Q&A round, Affleck spoke to the investor partner about the Goals of the studio — and dished it out directly against streaming giant Netflix.

According to Deadline, Affleck and investor Gerry Cardinale spoke about the studio’s goals during a Q&A session at the New York Times’ DealBook Summit. The productions are made for streaming and are intended to focus on three titles per year, maximum five restrict. Affleck wants to avoid interchangeable, short-lived, mass-produced goods à la Netflix:

If you ask Reed Hastings… I’m sure there’s some risk in that and I’m sure they had a great strategy, but I would have said, ‘How are we going to make 50 great movies?! How is that possible? There’s no committee big enough. There isn’t enough – you just can’t do it. It’s a thing that takes attention and dedication and work and withstands the assembly line process.

Affleck spoke about his film studio Artists Equity trying to balance commercialism and quality. Unlike Netflix, where a A large number of films are often only announced for a short time or for the duration of a weekend is, according to him, people should still remember the films of his studio in 20 years.

The beginning of this Streaming quality offensive the studio plans to do next year with a film about Nike’s Air Jordan brand being developed for Amazon. Affleck is set to direct the as yet untitled project, with Matt Damon co-starring.
