Mind control and conspiracy on Amazon Prime: That’s what the sci-fi thriller Hypnotic with Ben Affleck is about

Police officer Daniel Rourke (Ben Affleck) is missing his 7-year-old daughter, who was kidnapped three years ago. When he finds new clues, he encounters so-called hypnotics. These have perfected hypnosis to such an extent that people to their mindless slaves within seconds can do.

One of these hypnotics (William Fichtner) seems to have some connection to Rourke’s daughter. But as the investigator begins the pursuit, he soon can no longer trust anyone – not even his own perception.

Hypnotic is a down-to-earth science fiction film that is very reminiscent of Inception

A man separated from his children, the confusion about what is dream or reality and long expositions: the similarities between Hypnotic and Inception are obvious. But while Christopher Nolan juggles multiple dream levels, Rodriguez’s work is less complex. The director sets up for this Hypnosis instead of sleep and gives its protagonist a secret to uncover.

Nolan’s dream worlds are particularly eye-catching because of the changing surroundings. The act of hypnosis counteracts the bizarre situations in Hypnotic especially by the people affected caused. However, this fact makes the moment when the environment also changes in Hypnotic a little strange.

Robert Rodriguez worked on this film for 20 years

Thanks to films like the Mariachi trilogy and From Dusk Til Dawn, Quentin Tarantino’s pal has become a cult director. His works are dark and brutal like Sin City or for children, think of the Spy Kids series. Since Alita: Battle Angel, however, the director has increasingly been drawn to the science fiction genre.

In recent years he has created several episodes for the Star Wars series The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. With Hypnotic he now has realized his own idea for a sci-fi thriller. He worked on this for 20 years. Filming was paused several times and Rodriguez constantly encountered resistance.

Now he has finally completed his project and you can view the result on Amazon Prime at the flat rate.
