Usually discreet about her private life, Bella Hadid returned to the evil that has been eating away at her for several years: Lyme disease. What does it consist of? What are the treatments ? Explanations.
Like other members of her family, Bella Hadid is affected by Lyme disease. It’s a daily fight that the star has to fight against the disease and she talks about it regularly.
Health problems that cause his illness to flare up
In a video on the TikTok social network, she explains, with puffy eyes, having a dental infection that has lasted for more than a year: “It caused my Lyme to flare up, which means the Lyme is attacking the places that hurt: teeth, jaw, brain, spine, bones, etc. Oh, and the whole nervous system.” she admits.
She goes on to add that every health issue she encounters causes her Lyme disease to flare up. “Any minor trauma to the body, whether physical or mental, can cause a flare-up of Lyme disease. My jaw has been so inflamed and flared up randomly when I was or am too stressed or working too much. Some days it’s fine! And some days are tough. But when my jaw and nerves started hurting to an aggressive level, it went from 0 to 100. And now we’re here!”.
Bella Hadid finally admits to feeling better for a single moment: “I feel better when I ride a horse. And after starting two rounds of antibiotics, which in itself is a wild ride, I think my horses take my mind off the pain.”
What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is transmitted through the bite or sting of a tick infected with a bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi. It is the most common tick-borne infection.
Symptoms of Lyme disease vary over time:
- erythema migrans, which is a painless red spot centered on the bite site that gradually spreads. It is present in 95% of cases and can appear between 3 and 30 days after the bite;
- disseminated dermatological, articular, cardiac, ophthalmological and neurological symptoms which may appear a few weeks to several months after the bite.
The disease can also take polymorphic, diffuse and unexplained clinical forms which can result in headaches, cognitive disorders, disabling muscle pain and various other symptoms. In some cases, a course of antibiotics can be proposed to reduce the outbreak.
