It has not been there for 30 years, but here we go back to Belgium for military service. The new federal government of the kingdom wishes to gradually set up a one -year military service, for young people who would like it, on the basis of volunteering. “We offer in defense the possibility for young people to carry out a voluntary military service of 12 months”: this is how the initiative is presented in the agreement of the new federal government, in two or three lines. If all the modalities of it do not yet seem well defined, the experiment could start very quickly, as a response to a global geopolitical context and a rise in tensions.
