Belarusian Nobel laureate sentenced to prison

The Belarusian Nobel laureate Ales Byalyatski is sentenced to ten years in prison by a Belarusian court.

This is reported by the state-controlled Russian news agency Tass, according to Reuters.

Human rights activist Ales Byalyatski was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year. He was then described by the Nobel Committee as one of the initiators of the democracy movement in Belarus in the mid-1980s.
