After several high-profile femicides, a series of authorities, ministers and organizations must now meet.
Olga Persson at Unizon hopes that it will lead to something concrete.
– Signal value is not enough, she says.
In a short time, several high-profile murders of women have taken place, where the suspects are men in the vicinity of the women.
On Friday, the government has therefore called in a number of actors, ranging from heads of authorities and organisations, for a conversation about men’s violence against women.
At the meeting are Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M), Equality Minister Paulina Brandberg (L) and Social Services Minister Camilla Waltersson Grönvall.
Olga Persson, president of Unizon, which represents 140 women’s and youth services across the country, hopes that it will lead to a crisis council at the government office similar to the one that already exists for organized crime.
– We expect a gathering of strength from the government as a whole, she says before the meeting.
Recently, she also met Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).
– It has an incredibly important signaling value that the prime minister spends his time meeting experts in the field. But it is not enough to have signal value, it is required that all relevant ministries coordinate and that the operational work changes, she says.
