According to Jörgen Elfving, the fact that military support is decreasing is due to two things. Partly what military equipment is in the West that you are prepared to dispose of and partly the political will, which is failing in several countries.
Between August and October 2023, the support to Ukraine, both with money and military material, dropped by 90 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
And the future looks uncertain.
Can equalize the Russian advantage
Before 2024, the balance of power in the war is in Russia’s favor, according to Jörgen Elfving. But at the same time there are other things that matter.
– It’s also about things like leadership and how the soldiers are feeling that can equalize the Russian advantage, says Elfving.
In terms of military support, it is mainly artillery ammunition that Ukraine lacks. But long-range weapons and fighter aircraft are also needed, says Jörgen Elfving.
– The lack of combat aircraft has contributed to the fact that the counter-offensive did not lead to what was hoped for.
