The customs services and the DGCCRF are sounding the alert: the insecticide SNIPER 1000 EC DDVP is resurfacing on the market, despite its ban in France since 2013. This is news that worries the health authorities because this product is dangerous for humans.
This dangerous product continues to be sold illegally in specialized stores, in markets, and even on social networks. Now is not the time to take risks!
The Sniper contains a very toxic and even deadly substance
This insecticide contains dichlorvos, a product for household use banned in France since 2013.
“This active substance from the organophosphate family is classified as fatal by inhalation and toxic by contact with the skin or by ingestion.recalled ANSES in a press release.
This one “may in particular cause respiratory symptoms such as asthma, ocular symptoms and neurological disorders which can lead to loss of consciousness and cause a skin allergy. This is not exactly the kind of product you want to have at home!
Record seizures by customs
However, the product continues to be sold illegally in specialized stores, on markets, and even on social networks, notably under the names SNIPER 1000 EC DDVP® or SHOOTER 1000 EC DDVP®. Be careful not to take risks!
Since the start of 2024, customs services have already seized:
- 200 vials of SNIPER 1000 during two postal checks in Wissous.
- 287 bottles of SNIPER 1000 at Roissy airport.
- 1,784 bottles (for a total of 197.30 liters) upon the arrival of travelers at Roissy.
These numbers are chilling! Faced with this increase in seizures, a prevention message was displayed upon the arrival of flights deemed to be at risk.
A relentless fight against a dangerous biocide
The DGCCRF has been on the job for several years, monitoring the conformity of biocides intended for the general public, whether they are sold online or in stores. In 2023, nearly 600 businesses were inspected, and approximately 900 bottles of SNIPER 1000 EC DDVP or SHOOTER 1000 EC DDVP were seized, with online advertisements removed.
Moreover, a recall campaign concerning the SNIPER 1000 EC DDVP has been underway on the RappelConso site since November 2023. State services are fully engaged in this battle to protect public health.
What to do about pests?
For consumers faced with a bedbug infestation, first favor mechanical and thermal solutions: vacuuming, hot or cold washing. If the infestation persists, contact a qualified professional, preferably listed on stop-punaises.gouv.fr. And if you have to buy biocidal products, go to conventional distribution channels where you can benefit from advice on their use.
