Bed bugs? Then you must do this: “Immediately”

Bed bugs Then you must do this Immediately

The holiday season is here and then many people want to head for more southern latitudes. If you’re traveling south to rest up, watch out for bedbugs during your hotel stay.

And if bad luck strikes and you bring bedbugs home, what do you do? News24 have talked to Johanna Lundmarkcommunicator at the Tenant’s Association, who tells you what you must do if you get bedbugs in your tenement.

This is how you avoid bringing bed bugs home from your holiday

Lundmark says you can avoid bedbugs even before you leave.

– If you are going to stay in a hotel: Search the name of the hotel and the word “bedbugs” or “bedbugs” to see if there are previous complaints.

Once in place at the hotel, there are a few tricks to avoid bringing bed bugs home with you.

  • Start by placing your luggage in the bathroom, then examine mattresses, seams and joins in the bed and other textiles.
  • Look for small black spots or streaks from louse droppings.
  • Leave the clothes in the travel bag and keep it closed.
  • Place the bag high up and far from the bed.

When the vacation is over and you return home, you can unpack your travel bag on the balcony or in the bathroom instead of in the bedroom. This is because bed bugs thrive in textiles.

    – Immediately wash everything that can be washed, preferably at 60 degrees. Put what cannot be washed in a plastic bag and put in the freezer for a week, or on high heat in a drying cabinet for at least an hour. Vacuum the suitcase thoroughly, put the vacuum cleaner bag in a plastic bag, freeze it too for a week and then throw it away. If possible, leave the bag outside in freezing temperatures or in a drying cabinet as above.

But if the bad luck is still there, you need to contact your landlord. It is important that you contact the landlord quickly as it can be time-consuming and stressful to get rid of bed bugs. If you delay getting rid of the bed bugs, there is a risk that they will spread to neighboring apartments.

    – If you discover that there are bed bugs or traces of bed bugs in your home, it is very important to immediately report this to your landlord. The landlord may investigate the matter more closely and then it is very important to follow the directives you receive from the landlord and/or cleaning company.
