It was a nightmare race for Sebastian Samuelsson in the premiere of the Biathlon World Cup. In the fourth and final leg of the mixed relay, he completely blew away Sweden’s medal chances with lousy shooting.

Sebbe’s fiasco

The 25-year-old missed a total of six shots on the prone shooting and had to ride three penalty rounds. Sweden eventually finished in ninth place, several minutes behind gold team Norway, and Samuelsson broke down in tears after the race.

Since then, the Swede has been mocked and sawed in the Norwegian media and had to endure harsh criticism from the Swedish experts Uschi Disl and Bjorn Ferry. On Wednesday evening, the explanation for the lousy shooting came from Samuelsson himself.
“One of the toughest experiences so far in my career. Obviously very disappointed. After the race, it turned out that the screws holding the rifle to the stock were loose,” he wrote along with a picture on Instagram, see it below.
