Now the son Anders Salming comes forward to share a beautiful memory and a fine tradition with the father.

November 24, 2022 will forever be a day of mourning in Swedish sports. Then the icon fell asleep Börje Salming in and left a big void behind.
Börje’s passing
The last months were painful for the hockey legend and his immediate family. Together, they had to fight against the incurable nerve disease ALS and at the same time give Börje a dignified farewell to life.

The entire hockey family was brought together to pay tribute to Salming and show him how incredibly much he meant to the sport through several emotional tributes. In the Swede’s second home city of Toronto, large gestures of tribute were made to Börje, who was there, and in Sweden he had pretty much the entire “Hockey Gala of the Ages” dedicated to him.

Son Salming

Just jojk and the Sami heritage meant a lot to the hockey icon and it was a strong heart issue for him. Now the son enters Anders Salming forth and talks openly about father Börje and the Sami background.

“Nice memory”
In a new documentary on SVT called “Salming – the Sami from Salmi”, the son tells how important the Sami roots were to the father.
– Dad’s generation has felt pride in the origin and they have passed it on to us children, he says in the SVT documentary.
Together, father and son Salming had a nice tradition when they were up on the family farm in the village of Salmi, which belongs to Kiruna municipality.
– We had a song that we sang for fun. It went faster and faster, higher and higher and always ended with laughter, says Anders Salming and remembers his father fondly.
