Beach resorts and street vendors, Government towards reorganization regulation

PNRR Meloni we are working hard to achieve the fifth

(Finance) –
“President Mattarella’s appeal will not go unheard”: he assured it yesterday Prime Minister Meloni during the press conference at the beginning of the year, with clear reference to the observations made a few days ago by the head of state when promulgating the law on competition: in Colle’s sights are concessions for street vendors, on which Mattarella sees similarities with the beach resort affair (already the subject of Quirinale observations last year) and asks the government to intervene.

After the comments of the President of the Republic, the competition bill also ends up under the scrutiny of the EU Commission. And despite the discontent among the majoritythe prime minister seems to have decided to put the dossiers back on the table by announcing new regulatory interventions.

The European Commission, in fact, has made it known that it will “carefully analyze” the draft law on competition both on street vendors and on beach concessions and on these two topics it will “continue the bilateral dialogue with the Italian authorities”.

The government’s response will not be long in coming. The appointment, according to what we learn from government sources, should be scheduled for next week. It is inevitable that the meeting will also address the issue of seaside resorts, which is becoming increasingly tight between the risk of a maxi-fine for triggering the EU infringement procedure and the legislative Wild West situation that could take shape, with some municipalities having tenders have already been announced. On the subject, Meloni claims the government’s choices (“he has started work never done before with mapping, to verify the principle of scarcity of the good, required to apply Bolkenstein”), but he assures that something will be done.

“Now the objective – he says – it is a reorganization rule cwhich allows us to intervene in the current jungle, in a discussion with the European Commission and with the operators, to avoid infringement and to give certainty to the law”. First, however, we need to overcome the “obstacle” Matteo Salvini: the deputy prime minister and leader of the League is openly aligned in defense of the seaside resorts, a position that risks complicating the delicate negotiations in Europe entrusted to the Minister for European Affairs Raffaele Fitto.
