BCHS reports one COVID patient in care

The Brant Community Healthcare System on Monday reported one person in care with COVID-19.

It is the first time since June 6 that the BCHS has reported someone in care with COVID-19.

Of the patients admitted to hospital, 128 have been unvaccinated for a rate of 703.26 per 100,000 people, while 241 have been fully vaccinated for a rate of 211.43/100,000. In ICUs, 15 people were unvaccinated for a rate of 82.41/100,000 and 26 were fully vaccinated for rate of 22.84/100,000.

Also on Monday, the Brant County Health Unit reported nine new COVID-19 cases over the past 72 hours, however, that number likely is underreported because of limited testing.

There have now been 10,171 confirmed cases since the pandemic started in March of 2020, with 10,075 of those resulting in recovered cases.

There are currently 23 active cases in the community but that number is also likely underreported.

There have been 71 deaths reported since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.

As for vaccinations, there have been 337,044 total doses of the vaccine administered at vaccination clinics in Brantford-Brant. In Brantford-Brant, 84.57 per cent of residents, aged five and older, have received one dose of the vaccine, while 81.56 per cent have received two or more doses.

Walk-in vaccination clinics will be held this week at Lynden Park Mall (near Entrance 4 by Tip Top Tailors) Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm and on Saturday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

There is also a clinic on Monday (June 13) at the Brant Sports Complex from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

There is just one outbreak in the area at Brant Safe Beds (CMHA) from June 3 involving one resident and one staff member.

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic and Grand Erie district school boards are reporting the percentage of absences for students and staff at each of their schools. As of Thursday, there were six active cases on Six Nations of the Grand River and seven people in self-isolation.

No one from Six Nations is currently hospitalized with the virus.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,652 confirmed COVID cases on Six Nations.

Exact numbers are not available but 55 per cent of the population has received a dose of the vaccination, with 51 per cent competing in their vaccination series.

There have been 24 COVID-19 deaths on Six Nations since the start of the pandemic two years ago.

On Monday, Public Health Ontario reported 370 people in hospital with 112 in intensive care.

The province reported 357 new cases over the past 24 hours although that number is likely underreported due to limited access to testing.

There were no new COVID-19 deaths reported on Monday, the first time no new deaths have been reported in a 24-hour period since May 9. There have been 13,338 deaths in the province since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.
