BCHS reports 10 COVID 19 patients in care

The Brant Community Healthcare System on Wednesday reported 10 COVID-19 patients in hospital, up one from Monday. One patient is in intensive care.

Of the patients admitted to hospital, 125 have been unvaccinated for a rate of 608.45 per 100,000 people, while 158 have been vaccinated for a rate of 141.7/100,000. In ICUs, 16 people were unvaccinated for a rate of 77.88/100,000 and 18 were fully vaccinated for rate of 16.14/100,000.

Also on Monday, the Brant County Health Unit reported 51 new COVID-19 cases over the past 48 hours, however, that number likely is underreported because of limited testing.

Since the pandemic began in March of 2020, 8,989 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Brantford-Brant, with 8,713 of those resulting in recovered cases.

There are currently 209 active cases in the community but that number is also likely underreported.

There have been 67 COVID-19 deaths reported since the start of the pandemic.

There have been 322,587 total doses of the vaccine administered at vaccination clinics in Brantford-Brant. In Brantford-Brant, 83.17 per cent of residents, aged five and older, have received one dose of the vaccine while 80 per cent have received two or more doses.

A walk-in vaccination clinics will be held at the Lynden Park Mall (near Entrance 4), Brantford, daily through Friday, 11:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Saturday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm;

Outbreaks at Community Living Brant Facility No. 5 from March 28 involving one resident and one staff member and Brierwood Gardens LTCH from March 14 involving three residents were declared over on Monday.

There are currently five outbreaks in high-risk settings. They are: Tranquility Place Retirement Home – Brantford, April 5, three residents and one staff member; Lions McInnes House, April 4, three residents and three staff members; John Noble Home – Brant Terrace, April 1, six residents and one staff member; Riverview Terrace in Brantford, March 28, eight residents and one staff member; Sensity in Paris, March 28, three residents and five staff members.

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic and Grand Erie district school boards are reporting the percentage of absences for students and staff at each of their schools. As of Tuesday, there were 29 active cases on Six Nations of the Grand River and a total of 49 people are in self-isolation.

One person from Six Nations is currently hospitalized with the virus.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,579 confirmed COVID cases on Six Nations.

Exact numbers are not available but 55 per cent of the population has received a dose of the vaccination, with 51 per cent competing in their vaccination series.

There have been 24 COVID-19 deaths on Six Nations since the start of the pandemic two years ago.

On Wednesday, Public Health Ontario reported 1,091 people in hospital and 173 people in intensive care.

The province reported 1,991 new cases over the past 24 hours although that number is likely underreported due to limited access to testing.

There were nine new COVID-19 deaths reported on Wednesday and there have been 12,479 deaths in the province since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.
