He makes himself available. François Bayrou, acquitted in the affair of the MoDem parliamentary assistants, did not exclude on Monday, by “principle”, a return to government, while pointing out a “very great disturbance in National Education”.
As France 2 asked him if he did not rule out a return to government, Mr. Bayrou replied: “I never rule out anything. The principle, for me, precisely because you are committed, is to never rule out nothing.”
But “we are not in the formation of the government”. “The government is not formed,” he insisted, when asked about the hypothesis of an appointment to National Education to replace Amélie Oudéa-Castera, in difficulty since her arrival at Rue de Grenelle.
“I joined the Ministry of National Education […] thirty-one years ago. It’s a lovely story to tell. It’s better than Alexandre Dumas. Alexandre Dumas had written Twenty years later, there you invite me to write Thirty years“, also declared François Bayrou, Minister of Education in the governments of Édouard Balladur (1993-1995) and Alain Juppé (1995-1997).
“I think there is a very big disturbance in National Education, not since this month, not for years.” And “it’s a sector, you know how much I believe in it, how much I would give for us to regain morale, balance, the desire to teach without disturbance in our country, and (for ) the success of teaching”, said the president of MoDem. “This is probably the most important subject, or one of the most important subjects that we have to resolve,” he insisted.
He was acquitted in the European parliamentary assistants affair
The mayor of Pau, High Commissioner for Planning, was acquitted on Monday by the Paris criminal court in the case of European parliamentary assistants, “for the benefit of the doubt”.
Two other defendants were also acquitted, while the eight others, including five former MEPs, were sentenced to sentences ranging from 10 to 18 months in prison, fines of 10,000 to 50,000 euros and two years of suspended ineligibility. The UDF was fined 150,000 euros, including 100,000 euros, and the MoDem was fined 350,000 euros, 300,000 euros.
The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal must announce in the coming days the list of delegated ministers and secretaries of state who must complete the government.
