Bayrou announces that he will not return to government –

François Bayrou slams the door after several days of discussion with the executive. The centrist leader indicated to AFP this Wednesday, February 7, that he would not enter the government, in the absence of “deep agreement on the policy to follow”, while his name was circulating in particular for the portfolio of National Education since his acquittal in the affair of the MoDem parliamentary assistants.

“There were two areas which seemed to me to deserve full commitment: the Ministry of Education, which today is experiencing a crisis of confidence that comes from afar and which I believed could be corrected. But numerous discussions “have led us to conclude that there is a difference in approach on the method to follow which seems unacceptable to me”, declared François Bayrou. “The second subject is the gulf that has widened between the province and Paris, all the crises in regional planning and the now increasingly greater distance between citizens and public action. We “we were unable to find an agreement on these two points”, continued the president of MoDem, who said he also declined the Ministry of the Armed Forces.

First promised around January 20, the list of around fifteen personalities called to lend a hand to the 14 ministers already appointed on January 11 was finally expected on Monday, then Tuesday.
