ARC Raiders (Steam, PS5) is a new shooter being developed by former Battlefield devs. The new gameplay trailer mainly shows PvP and not everyone likes that.
What kind of game is this? ARC Raiders is the new extraction shooter from Embark Studios. Many former EA and DICE employees work there, who were responsible for the Battlefield series, among other things.
Embark Studios has already shown with the free2play shooter The Finals that they can develop good shooters. The Finals is being received “very positively” on Steam and was able to gain over 240,000 simultaneous players on Steam at its peak (according to SteamDB).
In a trailer that is around 6 minutes long, the developers show the first gameplay of ARC Raiders:
PvPvE in a dystopian future
What is the game about? In the distant future, Earth was attacked by machines from space, the so-called ARC. Humanity retreated underground. As a raider, you are one of the few to venture out to look for supplies.
On the surface you fight not only against robots controlled by the AI, but also against other raiders. As a rule, they would rather sell your loot themselves than give you a piece of the cake.
The gameplay shows how interactions with other raiders can work. You have the choice to ignore them, hunt them, or join forces with them. However, one thing was neglected: the ARC itself. Titko257 comments under the trailer on YouTube: “Hey um… where are the huge killer machines?”
Hardly killer robots, but outstanding sound
The ARC are only shown very briefly in the trailer and in a montage. The really big robots that have been advertised in previous trailers are nowhere to be seen here. However, the game is still in development – it’s quite possible that nothing presentable was ready yet.
However, there is great praise for the sound. The developers have already managed this very well, as many people see in the video:
Another extraction shooter on Steam wants to captivate players with its dark atmosphere and realistic gameplay. You can find out more about this in the following article: Shooter on Steam relies entirely on atmospheric gameplay, combining realism with pure horror
