EA spoke about the future of Battlefield 2042 in a blog post and announced that there will be no new seasons.
Battlefield 2042 is the latest part of the popular shooter series and was released on November 19, 2021. But the game had to listen to a lot of criticism from fans when it was released and so Battlefield 2042 was torn apart by players on Steam.
Since then, however, EA DICE has been working on making amends and trying to make the shooter the game that fans of the series wanted. The developers also brought new content, with the big seasons playing an important role.

No new seasons for Battlefield 2042
What does the future of the shooter look like? Battlefield General Manager Byron Beede provided an update on the future of Battlefield 2042 in a blog post on Electronic Arts’ official website.
The post says it’s now time to switch focus from the present to the future. This means, adds Byron, that Season 7 will be the final season of Battlefield 2042. Nevertheless, Shooter will continue to receive updates after Season 7 and will accordingly receive new modes, events and maintenance work.
While we have enjoyed and are proud to create these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary that we look from the present to the future. This means that Season 7 will be the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 ends, we will continue to support the game with new challenges, events, modes, and of course ongoing maintenance, but we will no longer offer official seasons.
We know this news may be disappointing. However, as we looked at what the future of the series required, it became clear that it was time for us to shift our resources and focus to fully dedicate ourselves to what comes next.

What is the current status of Battlefield 2042? Since the much-criticized release, there have been a number of updates that have brought new content such as weapons, vehicles and maps to the game, as well as some revisions to the existing content – including the class system and maps such as hourglass.
Free weekends and discounts were also used to lure new players who didn’t want to pay the full price for the shooter. As a result, Battlefield 2042 briefly had 100,000 players on Steam.
Battlefield 2042 currently has an average of 15,525 players on Steam over the past 30 days. That’s an average of 7,000 more players than in April 2023 (via SteamCharts).
Season 7, which started on March 18, 2024, brought Battlefield 2042 another new map and new weapons, including the AK5C (assault rifle) and the SCZ-3 (submachine gun). There was also a new rocket launcher on board, the Predator SRAW.
