Battlefield 2042 reaches a sad record, the descent into hell continues

Since its launch in November 2021, Battlefield 2042 has experienced a meteoric descent into hell. Anger of players on social networks, review bombing on the part of players, petition to demand a refund of the game (with more than 230,000 signatories today), Electronic Arts’ FPS has never experienced such disappointment. But it seems that the ordeal is far from over since the game fell below 1,000 connected players last weekend, which proves the game’s total lack of interest among players and its community. By way of comparison, at launch, more than 100,000 players had connected to Steam, and then even its number melted like snow in the sun. It is therefore the first time that the number of players is so low and the latter does not seem to go up since; or barely.

Despite several patches to try to fix bugs, rebalance operators, Battlefield 2042 has not lived up to the expectations of players, disappointed that a game of this caliber does not benefit from an exemplary finish. Likewise, the lack of content and the postponement of the first season has not helped the reputation of the title, which is fraying over the months. According to some insiders like Tom Henderson, Electronic Arts and DICE have started to think about a new episode of Battlefield to rectify the situation and offer an episode closer to what was done before. The idea therefore of making Battlefield 2042 the ultimate episode with this game-service side no longer seems relevant. Still, mistakes are repeated and publishers don’t seem to want to learn from their mistakes (see Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2015)
