– The alternative was either surgery and the whole season was over right away, or rehabilitation and a possible return to the fields. I felt that as a player I was able to help the team mentally better than off the bench. My idea was also that I want to quit at Catz, Melto says of his decision to quit in the press release.

He made the final decision to quit a couple of days ago.

– The decision was very difficult when there was a good personal season behind us. Basketball has been one hundred percent my whole life and through it I have had a wonderful family, a man and two children, Melto says.

Melto can’t say anything about his future plans yet.

– Everything is open. The decision to quit was difficult, which is why I haven’t had time to think about anything. Now there is one stage in life behind me and I look to the future with confidence.

One of the most successful players in the Basketball League

Although Elena Melto received her first basketball lessons in Russia, she is officially raised by Catz. Melto, who received Finnish citizenship in 2018, has previously been awarded twice as both the Alien Confirmation of the Year (2012, 2016) and the most valuable player in the finals (2010, 2013).

A week ago, at the Basketball Association Awards Gala, he was awarded Basketball Player of the Year. She is one of the most successful players in the Women’s Basketball League. In the season that ended, he scored the hardest point average of his career at 20.2 points per match. In addition, he grabbed 9.8 rebounds and made 3.4 assists to the basket.

In the Women’s Basketball League, Elena Melto has played 484 matches, in which she has completed 7,232 points and snapped 3,929 rebounds. Including the playoffs, he is third in the all-time points statistic Lea Hakalan and Kenya Robinson followed and in puck statistics fourth Auli Nymanin after.
