A user wanted a gaming PC and got the cheapest offer for it. But that wasn’t a good idea, as a number of people in the community explain to him. And not only did he overpay, he also made other mistakes.
Our cover photo is an iconic image.
What exactly did he buy there? He received the following system for 230 euros (via reddit.com):
If you take a look at the built-in hardware, you know immediately: The built-in technology is hopelessly outdated. The AMD FX 8320 still uses the old AM3+ socket and only supports DDR3 RAM. The graphics card (AMD Radeon R9 380) originally appeared in 2015, but AMD has now discontinued support for the old series. 8 GB of RAM is also tight for many games in 2023 and DDR3 is a bit slower than DDR4.
The graphics card offers sufficient performance for demanding games from 2015, for modern titles from 2023 the GPU quickly runs out of breath.
The reactions are muted. Many explain that 230 euros was far too much for the system. For 230 euros you can get at least a halfway decent system and the latest hardware today.
Another saver had little luck when buying new hardware:
Sparfuchs buys the RTX 3080 graphics card at half the price – but he soon loses his joy
Take your time before buying a gaming PC
If you are thinking about buying a new gaming PC, give yourself enough time to think about what you want to do with the system and what games you want your computer to be able to play. In many cases, spontaneous investments are often annoying and afterwards you are disappointed about the bad investment.
Which hardware makes sense in 2023? Already with the Ryzen 5 5600G you can play undemanding titles with medium details thanks to the integrated graphics chip. If you want to play for a long time, we would recommend investing in a decent processor and a proper graphics card:
If you’re unsure, get advice from friends or experts before you rashly invest money because you need a new gaming PC right now or you’re tired of your Xbox or PS5.
Other people also invest a lot of money in new hardware without thinking. A user now wanted to buy Nvidia’s RTX 4090 for little money. But in the end he shouldn’t see a graphics card or his money again:
