Barcelona can title themselves champions of Europe again. During Saturday’s Champions League final, Germany’s Wolfsburg was defeated in front of a large crowd at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven.
It was the German big club that opened the scoring in the first half. Ewa Pajor scored the first goal just a few minutes after the match started. Experienced Alexandra Popp topped up with the 2–0 goal at the end of the half.
Big favorites Barcelona went into the halftime break at a disadvantage, but in the second half the match took a complete turn. In the space of a few minutes, midfielder Patricia Guijarro had scored two goals and tied the game.
Swedish national team star hero
In the 70th minute of the match, the Swedish national team star Fridolina Rolfö stepped forward and became a great match hero when she scored 3–2 for her Barcelona.
Wolfsburg, with Swedish Rebecka Blomqvist on the substitutes’ bench, failed to get back into the match.
The match ended 3–2 and the jubilation among the Barcelona players was great when the referee blew the match off.
Barcelona last won the tournament in 2021. Last year they reached the final but lost to France’s Lyon.
