Barbie collector Annelie has over a thousand dolls

After the hit movie about Barbie some time ago, interest in the doll has grown. Annelie Järnkvist is one of all Barbie fans, even bigger than many others.
– I stopped counting after a thousand dolls, she says in Efter fem.

Annelie Järnkvist from Arkhyttan in Dalarna has had a great interest in Barbie since she was a child in the 1960s. It all started with her aunt having dolls that she was very impressed with but wasn’t allowed to play with.

– She took them out, so I got to look a little and then she took them away. She was very afraid of them. I thought the clothes were so nice, there were zippers in the clothes at the time, says Annelie.

Annelie has a house full of Barbie dolls

In the late 70s and early 80s, Annelie started going with her aunt to various flea markets and then bought her first barbie dolls. Today, after many years of collecting, Annelie has an incredible number of dolls, many of which are packed away as she has no room for them.

– I stopped counting after a thousand, says the Barbie fan.

Annelie’s rare doll: “Only available in 999 copies”

Annelie says that her collection usually arouses great admiration and that several of her friends have even started collecting themselves. Of all the fine dolls, Annelie has a few favourites, her first doll from 1971 and a collector’s doll of which there are only 999 copies worldwide.

– I have no idea what she is worth, but it is a lot. Many people want to get hold of her, says Annelie.

Annelie thinks it’s fun with the new great interest in Barbie. Of course she has been to the cinema and seen the film.

– It was funny that there was a film about her, she has become incredibly popular after this, says Annelie.
