A former asset manager at the major bank SEB is suspected of having stolen close to SEK 30 million from his clients – and transferred the money to his partner.
Now they are being prosecuted, Aftonbladet reports.
According to the indictment, the man, who is 55 years old, has taken the money out of the customers’ accounts through more than 250 illegal transactions between 2015 and 2023.
– I cannot go into how it happened. It will be brought up during the hearing, says chamber prosecutor Susanne Öhbom to the newspaper.
The asset manager, who thus had the task of managing the customers’ money, is charged with gross disloyalty to the principal. He has admitted to the crime during questioning, but not to the extent that the indictment concerns.
The partner is charged with serious money laundering despite his denial.
SEB, which is the plaintiff in the case, has reimbursed the customers for the stolen money.
“We take the incident extremely seriously. What has happened is deeply regrettable, above all for the customers who were affected but also for the employees who worked together with the employee and for us as a bank,” writes division manager Jonas Söderberg in an email to Aftonbladet.
