In Bangladesh, the parliament has been dissolved, confirms the country’s presidential office.

Dissolving the parliament was one of the main demands of the students to stop the protests. They had set a deadline of 15:00 local time for the dissolution of the parliament.

Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been released from house arrest a day after his political opponent Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin ordered Zia’s release after conferring with the military and politicians to form an interim government. Zia turns 79 next week.
