  • Bangladesh faces “shoot on location” orders

    Bangladesh’s police impose a strict curfew with orders to “shoot on location”, meaning that the police and military can shoot people who defy the curfew.

    The curfew came into effect at midnight, local time.

    Clashes between police and protesters have taken place in recent days after many, often students, protest a quota system that reserves up to 30 percent of government jobs for relatives of veterans who fought in Bangladesh’s 1971 independence war.

    A 24-year-old man from Sundsvall has disappeared. He was last seen on Thursday afternoon.

  • Violent protests in Dublin against asylum seekers

    Three police officers were injured and one person was arrested late Friday in Dublin in the latest violent anti-immigration protest.

    Friday’s protest broke out in the north of the Irish capital at a facility that is being renovated to house 500 asylum seekers. It is the latest of several demonstrations that ended violently during the week.

    On Monday, 21 people were arrested after police cars were attacked and machines were set on fire. Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris called the violence “reprehensible” and “criminal”.

    Police say Friday’s planned protest was initially “peaceful” with over 1,000 protesters, RTÉ reports. It later developed into protesters throwing stones and concrete blocks at the police, among other things.

    Violent protests have broken out in the French city of La Rochelle, reports say BFMTV.

    Several climate activists and farmers demonstrate against the expansion of massive irrigation reservoirs. Thousands of people participate, many have been injured and five arrested.

    Videos of the demonstrators clashing with riot police are being shared on social media.

    The authorities are also urging the public to stay away from parts of the city in a message on X.

  • Woman in her 80s was missing – was found

    A woman in her 80s was reported missing in Falun.

    The woman has been missing since 05:00 this morning.

    The police urged the public to call 112 if they think they have seen the woman.

    At 3 p.m., the police announced that the woman had been found “in good health”.

  • Children under ten to hospital

    A child has been taken to hospital after being involved in an accident with a small motor vehicle in Haparanda.

    – The information I have received is that the child must be under ten years old, says Marie Andersson, press spokesperson at the police.

    The accident must have happened on a farm, according to the police.

    – We have been to the scene, but I have no further information about the matter.

    Former TV4 manager and business profile Eva Swartz Grimaldi is dead.

    Her relatives confirm that TV4 News.

    “Our beloved Eva Swartz Grimaldi, 68 years old, has peacefully fallen asleep at home surrounded by her loved ones after a long illness,” the family writes in a statement and continues:

    “Eva has been extremely loved and has been active right up to the end and has shown the primal strength with which she lived life. It is an unimaginable sadness that she has left us, but we will remember her joy in life, love and care and carry it with us in missing her.”

    Swartz Grimaldi has had a number of heavy assignments in the business world, including CEO of the book publisher Natur & Kultur, chairman of Nordstedt and board member of the Swedish Film Institute.

    In 2020, she was awarded by the royal house for her outstanding contributions to Swedish cultural and social life.

    A man in his 40s was arrested at half past 11 in the morning at Arlanda Airport at Terminal 5.

    – A person at Arlanda was arrested for violent resistance and threats, says the Stockholm police.

    – We have not received any more information than that.

  • 13 dead in bombings of Gaza

    At least 13 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes on refugee camps in central Gaza overnight Saturday, according to Palestinian authorities.

    Among the dead in the Nuseirat and Bureij refugee camps were three children and a woman, according to Palestinian paramedics. The 13 bodies were counted by the journalists of the news agency AP on the spot.

    In Cairo, international mediators, including the United States, continue to try to persuade Israel and Hamas to reach a peace agreement that could end the war and release the approximately 120 Israeli hostages in Gaza.

    Fruitless negotiations between the warring parties have been ongoing since a week-long ceasefire in November. Both Hamas and Israel have repeatedly accused each other of destroying the negotiations before they could reach an agreement.

    Spain has detained three people suspected of carrying out cyber attacks against pro-Ukrainian countries, Spanish police said.

    The attacks are said to have been organized by a pro-Russian hacker group and to have targeted countries that support Ukraine during Russia’s war of invasion. Among them, public institutions and strategic sectors have been attacked in Spain and other NATO countries.

    The three people were all arrested in different places in the country on suspicion of “computer-related crimes with the intention of committing terrorism”.

    There is no information on what was the target of the attacks and how big the impact has been.

    A chemical factory started to burn on Saturday in Wackersdorf, Germany, reports Middle Bavarian.

    Several firefighters rushed to the industrial premises belonging to the company Eckart.

    At least one silo is said to have exploded, but it is still unclear how extensive the damage is.

    There is currently no danger to the public.

  • Crash on the E6 – one to hospital

    Two cars have collided on the E6 at Lindome, write P4 Gothenburg. One person has been taken to hospital.

    Ambulance and emergency services are on site.

    The accident happened in the southbound direction.

    On the Swedish Transport Administration’s website, it is stated that the incident has a very large traffic impact, and that the road is closed.
