Bandy: Hammarby took a timeout when leading 8-3: “It should have gone away”

– We have to learn to play better with such a big lead, it was far too hasty when it should have flowed away. But we haven’t been in these situations very often. We should have had better control of the match and have a lot left to learn and develop, says Hammarby’s coach Misja Pasjkin in Bandypuls’ webcast.

It was a quarter of an hour from the end when the strange scenes unfolded in Vänersborg Arena. Coach Misja Pashkin gathered his team after the three straight Vänersborg goals. There was only one more goal in the match. Oskar Westh stayed in front near the goal to make it 9-3 and complete his hat trick.

– We do many good things, wanted to be aggressive and grab the match immediately and combine away the opponent, says Pashkin about when Hammarby played bandy.

Oskar Westh’s first Bajen goal after 1.16

Hammarby, who kept pace with Villa Lidköping for an hour in the premiere on Friday, got off to a flying start. After 1.16, David Jansson took the ball down and caressed it to Oskar Westh, who could score his first goal for Hammarby since the transfer from Bollnäs last summer.

Tero Liimatainen showed fine technique when he volleyed to make it 2-0 and Westh had got a taste for goalscoring and made it 3-0 after a corner in the 13th minute and Vänersborg, who got a free place in the elite series after IFK Motala’s departure, were forced to a timeout.

But the run only continued until Albin Rohlén made it 8-0 after 51 minutes of play and it started to go down in the history books after Hammarby’s biggest win in the top league. It is a bit unclear with the statistics, but a big victory is when they defeated Falun with 17-2 in November 2009.

– We face a better team and are not ourselves, especially in the first half, but hats off to Hammarby, says Vänersborg’s coach Alexander Mayborn, who recruited a team for the Allsvenskan when it suddenly became the elite series instead.
