Bandy: Broberg won the decisive match against Hammarby – took the last playoff spot: “A bonus”

– I am happy and proud of the boys. It was a strong finish to the series. It was a bonus that we won this and a great feeling, says Broberg’s coach Andreas Westh to Bandypuls.

The conditions were clear for the hottest match of the evening, where the last playoff spot was at stake. Hammarby would make it to eighth with a win or a draw. Broberg needed a win when the regular season ended tonight.

With ten minutes from the end, Broberg secured the victory. Karl Tagesson came forward and fired a heavy shot from outside for 4-1 and great jubilation erupted from the traveling heel.

Hammarby had to see the playoff spot slip from their hands

Hammarby took a grip on the round of 16 by taking a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half. Melker Broberg advanced on the right wing and freed David Jansson, who was able to use his speed and score 1-0.

At the beginning of the second half, Broberg turned the game around. First, Tatu Ässämäki cut in 1-1 from a corner and a couple of minutes later Fritiof Hagberg free-kicked Jesper Öhrlund deep. From the left side, he scored 1-2 and the Söderhamn team then had a place in the round of 16.

“It’s damn heavy”

It was reinforced when Erik Jonsson pulled in a right corner for 1-3 for Broberg.

With hindsight, Hammarby lost its playoff spot when it lost 6-1 in the snow chaos against second-placed Motala on Wednesday.

– It’s damn heavy. We have fought incredibly hard this season. It’s hard to put into words when it ends like this. We become too passive in the second half, says David Jonsson.
