At the end of 2023, theEuropean Union decided to open negotiations with the‘Ukraine with a view to its membership. In the three Baltic countries, we would like them to have already started. During a televised debate, European candidate Ilmar Raag regretted that Ukraine had to suffer from not having a united and strong enough Union to support it. During her meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas reiterated that the Union must invest more in the military industry.

Baltic resistance put to the test
Without delay, Latvia and Estonia are setting an example by devoting 0.25% of their GDP to military aid to Ukraine. In this region bordering the Russiathis determination is vital, because if Ukraine fell, the Baltics believe that they would be next in Vladimir Putin’s sights.
And all the more so as Russia continues to test the resistance of the Baltics. The Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs has just summoned the Russian charge d’affaires because of untimely radar jamming which threatens air security in the region.
