How do I solve the bookshelf puzzle?

To solve the bookshelf puzzle and open Balthazar’s secret room, follow these steps:

  • The easiest method is to interact with the book row in the bookshelf, which is located at the top right. Be careful: if you don’t do this and interact with the wrong row, you will encounter traps.
  • So if you have touched the correct row, you now have the opportunity to interact with the altar, which is located to the right of the bookshelf.
  • Your task is now to take the heart of the corpse that is near you. Once you have the heart, go to the altar and place the heart in it. Make sure that you put the heart in the construct, not on it, otherwise the mechanism will not work.
  • What is in this secret room? In Balthazar’s secret room you can find scraps of lore and an interesting but locked chest that is easy to open. Inside you will find an elixir and a wizard’s hat.

In addition, in the same room to the north there is a ritual circle on a wooden table. Now you have two options if you have Gale with you:

  • Destroy the circle with Gale, giving him a permanent buff to his concentration checks.
  • Or: You build a shadow lantern. With the lamp, you can summon a shadow spirit after every long rest to support you in battle.
  • That was everything you need to know about Balthazar’s room. What did you choose and did you solve the puzzle yourself? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
