Ballon d’Or 2022: the World Cup will not determine the next winner, what date?

Ballon dOr 2022 the World Cup will not determine the

BALLOON OF GOLD. France Football has announced several changes to the awarding of the Ballon d’Or 2022, including a change in the calendar.

[Mis à jour le 11 mars à 12h53] Criticized for a few editions, the Ballon d’Or will change announced France Football. First of all, the “judgement” calendar will change. The next edition will take into account the entire 2021-22 season which will end with the Women’s Euro (July 6-31, 2022). The World Cup in Qatar (November 21-December 18, 2022) will however integrate the edition of the Ballon d’Or 2023.

On the list of suitors, in addition to that of journalists from FF (and of The Team) will now be added those of BO ambassador Didier Drogba (for the men’s BO and the Yachine and Kopa Trophies) as well as that of the voter who showed himself to be the most insightful during the previous edition.

For the voting method, only the representatives of the first hundred countries in the FIFA rankings (and the fifty for women) will be “qualified” to vote. A tightening that reinforces the level of expertise and limits the (rare) fanciful votes.

Finally, the criteria will change. Criterion number 1 will focus primarily on individual performance and the decisive and impressive character of the contenders, explains FF. Criterion number 2 will focus on the collective performances and the prize list accumulated during the season. Finally, criterion number 3 will concern the class of the player and his sense of fair play.

While we could expect a postponed 2022 edition of the Ballon d’Or due to the World Cup in Qatar, the next edition should stick to a more traditional calendar after the allocation changes from of France Soccer. The ceremony should take place around November, even if the date is not yet official.
