Baldur’s Gate: Never overload again

Your inventory is annoying in Baldur’s Gate 3? Are you always overloaded? We have three tips and tricks you can use to reduce your payload.

In Baldur’s Gate 3 you have to deal with many problems. But not only devils, mind flayers and parasites in your head can make everyday life difficult for you, there is also a much bigger monster: the inventory.

While that’s infinite in theory, there’s still a limit to the load your character can carry. We therefore have some tips for you to reduce your character’s carrying load and not be “overloaded” so often.

Why is a clean inventory so important? There is a limit to how much your character can carry in Baldur’s Gate 3. Although you have a little leeway, your character will be overloaded after a certain amount. He then moves slower and becomes less agile – which can bring really big disadvantages in combat. You should definitely avoid that.

At the bottom of the inventory you can see the weight display.

1. Don’t take every junk with you

Yes, as an RPG fan, it’s hard to bear not picking up all the items. Taking all the loot with us has been drummed into us in RPGs for decades. But in Baldur’s Gate 3 you should say goodbye to this thought. You don’t need to pick up every moldy apple, and you shouldn’t stuff every worn-out goblin sword into your backpack. No, not even broken barrels that might come in handy at some point.

You can right-click on each item before picking it up (“Examine”). Then you not only see the weight of the item, but also its value. Cooking pots that weigh 2.00 weight points but are only worth 1 gold should be left behind. On the other hand, you can take a finely decorated chalice that only has 0.10 weight points but a value of 40 gold to sell it.

Gradually you will get a feeling for which objects are valuable and recognize them by their names.

Characters like Karlach can carry a lot – so give them the items.

2. Distribute loot to your strong characters

How much a character can carry depends on their attributes. You can see how high this limit is in each character’s inventory (i key) or in the group screen (tab key).

A mage with no strength will only be able to carry a small amount of weight and will have a maximum strength of around 80, while a barbarian with high strength can carry almost twice that without being restricted in the slightest.

So when you’re handing out loot, it’s best to make sure you push the heavy stuff onto your strongest character. This is already possible while you are looting something. If you open a chest with your “main character”, you can select several items in the chest using CTRL+left click. Once you’ve marked all the items you want, right-click on one of them and then select the desired character from the menu – the loot ends up in their inventory.

Also remember that you can sort your items by weight in the top left of the inventory window. Then the heaviest objects are displayed first and you can see immediately what is driving your load up.

3. Send stuff to camp

This option is best for magic or high-quality gear that none of your currently active characters can wear. You don’t have to carry the heavy plate armor with the enchantment if nobody can use it. With a right-click on the item you can simply select “Send to storage” – and the item will end up in your personal chest in storage, without the need to travel there yourself.

With this “trick” you can create a lot of inventory space even during an adventure, so that you can take even more loot from a dungeon with you.

But remember to regularly “clean out” your box in the warehouse and throw out unnecessary stuff. Otherwise, one day it will be messy and completely overcrowded.
