What kind of ending is this? On X, the developers showed a somewhat longer sequence from a new ending. The “Dark Urge” can be seen, apparently directly after the final confrontation with the Netherbrain. Instead of destroying the brain, the Dark Urge has taken control of the Cult of the Absolutes. He exercises this control and forces his previous companions to step to the edge – and then take the final step beyond it. The companions throw themselves into the depths and almost certainly find their death.
