Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing game that delights players with, among other things, its great freedom of choice. In case some of you want to test the limits, developer Larian has provided secret NPCs.
Where are hidden NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3? Larian Studio has put some thought into the game’s decisions. This shows a series of secret NPCs that only appear when the players resort to sometimes drastic measures.
For example, remember Zevlor? You encounter the Tiefling at the very beginning of Act 1. After you have survived the nautiloid’s crash and collected the first party members like Shadowheart, you will most likely reach the Druid Grove.
Zevlor explains that the relationship between Tieflings and Druids is disturbed. The Druids want to throw the Tieflings out of their grove, while they prefer to stay in safe hiding place out of fear of the enemy Goblins.
Zevlor then gives you the task of cleaning up the goblin camp and killing their leader. Now you have several options. One of them reveals two new NPCs.
You can kill Zevlor without failing the quest
What options are there? First you can turn against the Tieflings and the Druids and wipe out the grove itself. However, most “good” players will accept Zevlor’s assignment, complete it and then return to him. Then there is a big party with all the Tieflings.
You can also kill Zevlor and still take out the goblin leaders. In this case, the developers have a solution ready. Instead of Zevlor, another NPC awaits you when you return to the grove.
As can be seen in the video from the YouTube channel Proxy Gate Tactician, you will then meet the Tiefling Asharak. But you can also kill him before the actual quest. So what happens if both Zevlor and Asharak die?
The answer is as simple as it is logical: Larian gives you another replacement. Namely Cerys. She is not normally found in the grove and is actually only encountered by players in the “Zum Last Light” inn in Act 2.
Do the other Tieflings also have a replacement? The YouTuber wanted to know exactly and in another attempt killed all the Tieflings who were present at the celebrations after the death of the goblin leaders.
To his surprise, Larian also foresaw this evil move. Because each of the Tieflings killed was able to come up with a replacement with their own name. It looks like these NPCs were created for the sole purpose of preventing a Game Breaker.
Speed runs in Baldur’s Gate 3 also sometimes require you to act maliciously.
You can easily miss another NPC
Which NPC is it about? If you decide to leave at least one party member behind in the grove while you go goblin hunting yourself, you will unlock a secret NPC and his cutscene.
To do this, you have to give up a member in battle. By remaining in the grove, this character unlocks a sequence in which he meets the NPC Gerson Bent. After the death of the goblin leaders, Gerson explains to you that the other Tieflings have now left the grove because there is something to celebrate.
The background to this cutscene is probably a hidden loading sequence. While you’re talking to Gerson, all the other Tieflings are being transported out of the grove.
As seen in Proxy Gate Tactician’s video, the cutscene appears to be so rare that it doesn’t even work properly and produces graphical errors.
It’s further proof that Larian Studios has shown great dedication and attention to detail in the development of their RPG. A player in Baldur’s Gate 3 survives 80 hours in honor mode, but then fails due to a dialogue.
