Bakers are popular, but why do they often have a hard time? ‘The consumer still looks at his wallet’

Broken freezer almost kills Utrecht bakery until the neighborhood takes

It costs 10,000 euros to replace the freezer motor. The money has already been collected in about five days. “In a word, great,” says the owner of local bakery Verhoeff, Jolanda Mayvis. The freezer casing was already there when the baker moved into the building in 1997, so it could be almost thirty years old. But there’s nothing wrong with that. However, the 15-year-old engine has stopped working. Mayvis hopes that the crowdfunding and the attention that comes with it will have another effect: more customers. That would really help her through the winter.
