Bailiff: Tenfold increase in assessed amounts remotely

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The bailiff has increased tenfold the amount of goods they measure remotely in the past six months. This after a change in the law in August last year which simplifies the process and which both the police and the bailiff now hope will hit the criminal gangs hard. From having been around half a million kroner in assessed amount per month, it ends up provisionally for January at over six million kroner. Now it is hoped that it will become a sharp tool for accessing the criminal gangs and their attractiveness among young people.

– Often you have the older criminals as role models as they have money, valuables, gold chains and so on. If we can get it off the street, the thesis is that in that way we can reduce new recruitment to the gangs, says Eva Sund, commissioner at NOA to TV4Nyheterna.

– The criminals often have large debts. It can be about damages to victims of crime that have not been paid, but also tax debts or maintenance support, says Linda Ståhlberg, section head of special enforcement at the Kronofogden.
