Bail hearing set for man accused of attempted murder

Defense still awaiting relevant disclosure in teens manslaughter case

A man accused of attempted murder in a downtown Chatham shooting in April will get a bail hearing after a few delays.

Jared John Atwell, 25, who faces charges of attempted murder while using a firearm, possession of cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking, made a brief virtual appearance in a Chatham court Thursday.

Court heard a date has been set for Atwell to have a bail hearing on July 20.

A publication ban is in place on evidence heard during the pre-trial phase.

According to reports published previously, a man was shot April 30 about 1 am during a clash near King Street and Fifth Street, Chatham-Kent police said. The injured man was treated in hospital.

Kyle Wright-Morgan, 32, was shot, court documents said.

It was an isolated incident involving two men known to each other, police said at the time.
