Badly done by Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson and Linn Svahn

No. No. No. No. No.
That’s what it sounded like from our Swedish skiing stars.
Sharpening!, we say to Frida, Ebba and Linn.

This is a comment. The opinions are the writer’s own.

We have only one month left until the much-anticipated ski WC in Trondheim. The big highlight of the whole ski season and you really notice it in the skiers too.

The Swedes are missing

Because despite the fact that three (!) World Cup weekends remain before the World Championship, the dropouts have been pouring in. For this weekend’s World Cup race in the Swiss Engadin is neither Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson, Lynn Svahn, William Poromaa or Johanna Hagström with and it’s way too bad.

It will look the same when the World Cup comes to Italian Cogne and Swedish Falun in the coming weekends. I know how important the World Ski Championships are, but it’s so depressing to see the big blue and yellow ski stars turn down competitions just to stay at home and train instead.

Focus on you

It becomes even more depressing when you know that no Swede has won the overall World Cup since 2003, i.e. 22 years ago. And it won’t be like that in the near future either, when you so often opt out of both Tour de Ski and World Cup competitions.

Cross-country skiing must be one of the few sports where the practitioners can ignore competitions so easily and now there is actually a whole month left until the WC. Just compare with biathlon where the skiers compete every single weekend and also close to their WC.

Therefore, I direct a big “Sharpening!” to Frida, Ebba, Linn and the others who said “no, thank you”. Here really is Jonna Sundling, Emma Ribom and Maja Dahlqvistwhich is on site in the Engadin, an example for Swedish national team skiers. More like that!
