Bad working environment at work Then you have to do

Working overtime is something many people embark on in order to catch up with the work tasks for the day. Sometimes it can certainly happen that the manager or colleague urges you to continue working after your regular working hours have actually ended. What then applies according to the law? Does the employer have the right to demand or expect you to continue working even after the working day is over?

Salary talks? Here are the arguments the boss uses against you

The lawyer: “Many who do not join the union”

In an interview with News24 explaining Carl Mitt Holmlawyer at the Academic Association SSR, how it really is and how you should handle the situation if and when it does arise.

He believes that it is becoming more common for employees to be expected to be available to an increasing extent, while many do not choose to go to their trade union with those types of questions.

– It is clear that the line between work and leisure is blurring. A rough example is a dispute we have where a member is dismissed because he “does not follow the company’s values” because he, as a manager, did not arrive first and leave last from work every day, he explains and continues:

– When we talk about the more classic example of one’s boss, or for that matter colleague, emailing and asking one to go through a document and give feedback as soon as possible, the question is more difficult. Depending on the workplace and collective agreement, the conditions may look different.

Regardless of how your situation at the workplace looks like, you should discuss possible work environment problems, above all to have a good work environment but also to have a clear dialogue with colleagues and managers, says Mitt Holm.

– I think everyone wants a good and productive work environment without risking being seen as lazy in their workplace. If there are problems, the forms for when emails are sent and when responses are typically needed should be discussed. Not all issues need to be urgent just because it feels that way. Often a question can wait until the next business day.

Mitt Holm also says that the Academic Union SSR receives cases where employees seek advice, support and tips on how to be able to conduct a dialogue with their employer. And if the union then sees that there is a risk of a breach of the law or collective agreement, they request a negotiation with the employer.

– If it is more structural issues within the organization that make it not work, it is often good that a safety representative is also involved in how it can be improved, he tells Nyheter24.
