The teacher’s wife, who was killed in the primary school attack in Uvalde, Texas, died two days later of a heart attack. Joe Garcia was the wife of teacher Irma Garcia, who taught at the school for 23 years. The couple, who has been married for 24 years, had 4 children.

Along with Irma Garcia, 19 students and a teacher were killed by the gunman. Irma Garcia’s niece wrote on her Twitter post that Joe Garcia died due to grief over the murder of his wife.
The couple had 2 girls and 2 boys aged 12 to 23.
Her family shared the information that Irma Garcia was found by the police trying to protect the children by hugging them until her last breath.
The charity campaign launched on behalf of Irma Garcia reads, “She sacrificed herself to protect the children in her class. She was a hero.”
Another teacher, Eva Mireles, died in the same attack.
