310 MILLION EURO PENALTY TO LINKEDIN! SO WHAT IS THE REASON?
The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), which is responsible for the protection of personal data in the EU, announced that the investigation into LinkedIn Ireland has been completed.
It was stated in the statement that LinkedIn’s processing of personal data for behavioral analysis and targeted advertising was examined within the scope of the investigation, and that problems were identified regarding the legality, fairness and transparency of these transactions within the scope of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In the statement, it was stated that the processing of personal data without a suitable legal basis is a clear and serious violation of the data owner’s rights, and therefore, LinkedIn was fined 310 million euros and an order was sent to the platform to bring its activities into compliance with the law.
