BlackBerry stopped producing phones with its own operating system, BlackBerry OS. The company started using Android as its mobile device operating system in 2015, like many of its competitors in the market. BlackBerry made an important decision regarding BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry PlayBook OS support.
BLACKBERRY MADE THE DECISION: THE END OF AN ERA
On January 4, an era for BlackBerry will end. As of this date, basic functions such as making calls, sending SMS, and even making emergency calls on devices running BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier versions, BlackBerry 10, and BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 “will no longer function reliably,” the company reports.
Devices may “possibly” experience connectivity issues when using Wi-Fi and mobile data.
The end of support for BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 will also affect the functionality of some applications.
In recent years BlackBerry had transformed from a hardware company into a software company.
