Bactiguard’s coating reduces thrombo-inflammatory reactions and acute stent thrombosis, according to a new study conducted by Bactiguard together with KTH and Karolinska Institutet. The results show that the body’s reaction to foreign objects is significantly reduced when Bactiguard’s surface layer is used on implant material.

Medical technology company Bactiguard’s coating reduces thrombo-inflammatory reactions and acute stent thrombosis, show results from a new study conducted jointly by KTH and Karolinska Institutet. The conclusion is that the body’s reaction to foreign objects is significantly reduced when Bactiguard’s surface layer is added to implant material, the company writes. Tests were carried out both in in vivo (in pigs) and in vitro (in glass, outside living organisms). The measurements showed that the coated stent group had a “remarkable reduction” in clot volume compared to the control group. This effect was observed as early as one hour after stent implantation and became even more accentuated after two hours.
