Salmonella bacteria were detected in the factory of Barry Callebaut, one of the world’s leading chocolate producers, in Belgium.
SALES STOPPED
In a written statement from the company, it was reported that the bacterium was found on June 27 at the factory in the city of Wieze. Thereupon, it was stated that the sale of all chocolates produced since 25 June has been stopped.
In the statement, it was announced that the cause of the bacterium was investigated, and after it was clarified, the factory would be cleaned and re-started production.
In April, salmonella was found in Kinder chocolate products at Ferrero’s factory in Arlon, Belgium, and cases were seen in many European countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that there are 151 salmonella infections associated with chocolate products in the world. It was announced that the factory, which was closed, will start operating again next month. (AA)
