More than 300 people were supposed to take a dip in the Eem next Saturday afternoon, to raise as much money as possible for cancer research. Officially, the Eem is not a swimming water, but exceptions are made for these types of events. But the last test threw a spanner in the works: the E. coli bacteria was found. So the event was given a negative swimming advice. “With a heavy heart we have to cancel it, but the safety of the participants comes first,” says board member Danny de Graaf.
