On the agenda at the beginning of August, four major changes announced by the government! Here is a brief summary of these new developments that concern the French.

Like every year, the French should experience some changes from the beginning of August. Between allowances, savings or even electricity prices, discover the new features announced by the Government, and which will be implemented before the start of the school year in France.

    Back to school allowance

One month before the start of the school year, it’s time to buy school supplies! Good news, for parents with a child in school, it is possible to benefit from a back-to-school allowance. This aid financed by the CAF is valid for each of your children, according to their age. If they are between 6 and 10 years old, you can benefit from 416.40 euros; between 11 and 14 years old, 439.38 euros; and between 15 and 18 years old, 454.60 euros. To receive this payment, your resources for the year 2023 must not exceed a certain amount (consult the website of Ministry of Education for more details).

You do not need to take any steps to benefit from it if your children are between 6 and 15 years old and you are a beneficiary. On the other hand, if your child is between 16 and 18 years old, you will have to declare to the CAF that he or she is still in school or in apprenticeship for the start of the 2024 school year, in order to receive the payment of this aid.

    Electricity: no increase in prices!

More good news, the increase in electricity rates initially planned for August 1, 2024 was ultimately not validated by the Government. Consumers are therefore spared a 1% increase on their bill. The electricity rate should be reviewed soon.

Rates of the popular savings account (LEP) down…

Designed to allow the most modest households to save, the popular savings account (LEP) is revised each year by the Ministry of the Economy in agreement with the Governor of the Bank of France. What has been decided? From August 1, 2024, the rate of the popular savings account (LEP) will decrease by 1%, from 5% to 4%. This new rate should be fixed until January 31, 2025, and the ceiling of the LEP will remain at €10,000.

End of validity of the Rail Pass

If you are between 16 and 27 years old, you may have been enjoying the Pass Rail since June. And as all good things must come to an end, this offer at 49 euros per month allowing you to travel unlimited on regional trains (TER) and Intercités, will end on August 31. As of today, you only have one month left to travel across France and a few European countries!
