Baby Yoda wouldnt have survived a second here

With The Book of Boba Fett we now have a whole series about the legendary bounty hunter from the galaxy far, far away. However, long before the success of The Mandalorian and Co. at Disney + a Boba Fett movie planned, which should come to the cinema. The creative mind behind the project: James Mangold.

Mangold is currently on the big screen with Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny. About his failed Star Wars film he has kept a low profile in the past. As Variety reports, he has now revealed a few specific details about his ideas in the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Failed Star Wars film: James Mangold wanted a tough spaghetti western for Boba Fett

Mangold envisioned the Boba Fett film as a brutal spaghetti western set entirely on one planet. In the US, the film would have very likelyh received an R ratingwhich means that persons under the age of 17 can only watch the film when accompanied by a legal guardian.

It is questionable whether this concept would have gone through with Disney and Lucasfilm. Disney especially stands for family friendly entertainment and most Lucasfilm productions are aimed at a similar target group. Looking back, Mangold says:

When I was then [an dem Boba Fett-Film] worked, I probably scared the shit out of them.

The adorable Baby Yoda, who met Boba Fett in The Mandalorian season 2, would have had a blast in this unforgiving version of the Star Wars universe had no placeas Mangold sums up.

After Boba Fett and Indiana Jones: James Mangold is already working on a new Star Wars film

However, the Boba Fett film failed for another reason: the financial flop of Solo: A Star Wars Story cost Lucasfilm a drastic rethinking taken care of. Work on all theatrical films apart from the Skywalker saga has been discontinued and the focus has shifted to the Disney+ streaming service.

Some of the discarded projects are comes to life in serial form. In addition to The Book of Boba Fett, this includes last year’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Nevertheless, Mangold was happy at Lucasfilm. After his work on Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny, he will bring a Star Wars film to the cinemas in the next few years, which deals with the origins of the Jedi and the Force.
