The UN reported that 68 fires broke out in the camps since the beginning of the year, and that two people died and 24 were injured in these fires. Most of the fires came from stoves set up for heating.

Sonia Khush, Syria Director of the charity Save the Children, said it was “inconceivable for a child to be worried about his winter life”.

“Almost 11 years after the onset of the crisis in Syria, the world seems to have forgotten about the children in Northwest Syria,” Khush added.

“These preventable and tragic deaths are terrible events that show children how urgently humanitarian aid is needed. They too need a lasting, peaceful solution in Syria.”
